Some time ago, Kamiwa wrote an excellent, if rather technical, blog post showing how to add support for a range of additional video formats to the DivX Connected set-top box, which was quickly followed by the All-In-One pack for implementing many of these changes.
So, picking up where he left off, we’ve added support for a range of additional MP4 video formats and resolved some audio sync issues.
Making the update
Before you start, you’ll need to exit the DivX Connected server application, then download and install all of the following software:
Next, download the updated configuration files and extract the contents to a memorable location, e.g. your Desktop:
- DCD Show Playback Plugin configuration files (4KB zip archive)
Once extracted:
- Double click both the ffdshow_audio.reg and ffdshow_video.reg files and press Yes/OK when prompted (these are the same as Kamiwa’s original All-In-One pack)
- Copy DCDShowPlaybackPlugin.config to the DivX Connected program folder
- 32-bit Windows: C:\Program Files\DivX\DivX Connected\Bin\DivX Connected
- 64-bit Windows: C:\Program Files (x86)\DivX\DivX Connected\Bin\DivX Connected
- Restart the DivX Connected server software
- Play your MP4s
That’s it!
Fast forward & rewind
If you find that you’re unable to fast forward or rewind non-DivX videos, don’t panic! Simply tap the up and down arrows on your remote control to skip forward/backward through the video, or use the number keys to jump to a virtual chapter.
Audio Sync
We’ve had reports of some users experiencing occasional audio sync issues during H.264 video playback (MP4 and MKV files).
If you find that these issues cannot be resolved by stopping and restarting the video, or skipping back to the start by pressing the 0 (zero) button, we’ve prepared an alternative configuration file that switches H.264 decoding from DivX Plus to ffdshow:
If you would prefer to make the changes manually, open DCDShowPlaybackPlugin.config and comment out (or remove) the <decoder> block immediately after “DivX H.264 Decoder : DivX supplied” and restart DivX Connected.
Hi, tried it but still no luck :((
I can’t see the file on divx connected PC either
After copying the DCDShowPlaybackPlugin.config file to the program folder, you should start to see previously unsupported files almost immediately after restarting DivX Connected, even if you can’t play them.
If not, the first thing to try is refreshing the file list by going into the folder on your set top box, pressing menu on your remote control and selecting the appropriate option.
The most likely reason for not seeing the files is that the config file has been copied to the wrong folder (easily done, given the odd folder structure of the DivX Connected program files), but another possibility is that you have installed the 64-bit ffdshow-tryouts, which doesn’t work with the 32-bit DivX Connected software.
Let us know how you get on.
Hi
I am using Windows 8 so there is only the x86 program files folder, which I think is just 64bit so that is the only place I can put the ffdshow-tryouts. So am I correct in thinking that it will not work with Windows 8?
“Program Files (x86)” is where 32-bit programs live in 64-bit versions of Windows, so it sounds like you have the right version of the ffdshow-tryouts installed.
Just to rule it out, is the config file definitely in the same folder as all the other program files (C:\Program Files (x86)\DivX\DivX Connected\Bin\DivX Connected)? You should see dozens of other files, including one named “DCDShowPlaybackPlugin_sample.config” in there.
I haven’t tried DivX Connected in Windows 8 yet, but will see if I can give it a go over the next couple of days and let you know what I find.
Thanks for your help.
Yes DCDShowPlaybackPlugin_sample.config is in there. Also there is the DCDShowPlaybackPlugin. plus a DCDShowPlaybackPlugin.dll file.
Just to recap when I clicked on the ffdshow_audio.reg and ffdshow_video.reg files they modified the registry and hen I copied the DCD file to the correct directory. I then reboot cable to my TV but it is not as good as the sound needs to be amplified as the laptop sound is insufficient.
Thanks for your comments once again.
After installing DivX Connected on Windows 8, we were able to apply the updates without any problems, and all of our MP4 files were listed, although we were unable to test DivX Connected PC as it kept crashing on our virtual PC setup (which I suspect is a virtual display driver issue).
Did you install Matroska Splitter? The site appears to be down, so we’ve posted an alternative. The update won’t work without this installed.
HI
Thanks very much ; it is worling on Divx connected PC so I expect it will work when I try it via the Divx box.
Thanks once again
Just tried it on TV and DIVX connected crashes after 20 seconds everytime! Weird.
Its also crashing on my XP desktop but still plays from the desktop!
Any ideas please?
That’s probably related to this: http://forums.divx.com/divx/topics/my_divx_connected_has_stopped_working
I just install Windows 8 64-bit and DivX Connected crashes on startup. Has anyone else gotten DivX Connected to work in Windows 8?
Divx works in Windows 8. I used the trick of turning the internet off and then loading divx connected and then turning internet back on and no problems. Thanks to the link here :)

Another way is to convert divx to mp4, mov use a divx converter call idealshare videogo
DivX is a video codec compressing videos with superb quality. There are two DivX codecs. One is the regular MPEG-4 Part 2 DivX codec. The other is the H.264/MPEG-4 AVC DivX Plus HD codec. Videos with DivX codec can be played in DivX Player. However, DivX codec is incompatible with most media players, portable devices or video editing software.
In order to play DivX files without any limitation, a recommended way is to convert DivX videos to a more popular video format like convert DivX to MP4.
Recommend Bigasoft Total Video Converter. I used it for two years. It’s very helpful in handling this issue.
